There are occasional reports of a fall in demand for IT specialists. This would imply that anyone entering the field recently—say as a junior programmer—would have to work cheaper than before or look for a long job. While there was some stagnation in 2023, recent data show that wages in the sector are now healthy.
According to Hays, IT wages in Hungary are expected to grow by around 8-10% annually between 2025 and 2027.
Of course, programming salaries may vary by programming language. Still, junior programmers, in general, could start this year in Hungary with a gross salary of between 650,000 and 950,000 HUF for each of the language types mentioned. Salaries above 1 million HUF gross are already the average for programmers with 3-5 years of experience at the intermediate level, where the maximum salary can be up to 1.6 million HUF, especially for Python developers.
Hays’ analysis highlights that demand for skilled workers will be vital in cybersecurity, AI, and application development, while software testers will see below-average wage growth.
